I have been doing a trip down memory lane lately with technology and realizing how powerful the devices are that we are using now. When I started programming my Dad had a 4K Coco Col our computer made by Radio Shack. In order to load programs you either used a cartridge or a tape drive. At the time this was an expensive top of the line pc.
What is amazing is in my hand I carry a Samsung Jack Smart Phone. This runs Windows Mobile and has a 4 GB mini SD card in it. This is absolutely incredible to have all this power in the palm of my hand. All for a couple hundred dollars on a 3 year contract instead of the $500-700 that the 4K coco sold for.
Technology just seems to be advancing and advancing and this is just one good example of how it has advanced in the last number of years.

In Toronto the two biggest Highspeed Internet providers are Bell Sympatico and Rogers Cable. Their are other but they are resellers of these two. I realy dislike Sympatico. One of my biggest complaints is their Technical Support. The last time I called Technical Support I had major issues with them. What is worse is that you get transfered to India with someone who can not speak English and can not listen.
To compound that, a good friend of mine called Sympatico and they told him the settings in the router he had changed. They said he should be able to connect the modem directly to the pc - guess what? It does not work. Two days later they tell my friend they have major problems in this area and it could be days. Why could they not tell him this before? This I do not get.

Today I was reading Techcrunch online when I came across an interesting story. They reported that their is now a social networking backup site called cucku. This site lets you pair with a backup buddy to exchange backups with each other. What an interesting concept.
I am going to test this out and see what comes of this.

This week I was wondering the future of newspapers. Personally in their current form, they will go extinct. The problem is the age old tradition of reading the news at the breakfast table is long gone. The reality is people want more portability in today’s society. For us commuters the newspaper is just to big to carry.
Personally I believe the future is the electronic newspaper. Something that is available on a e book reader or via the Kindle would make a lot of sens. The issue is these device need to come down in price.
Why these type of devices - for one they are ultra portable. No more bulky newspapers to carry. As a result they will appeal to the technology crowd who is always looking for more. Look no further then the mp3 player. They are small and extremely portable. No more big CD players to carry around.

Well Friday was the date the I Phone was released. Their were lineups all over Toronto where I live. Some people needs to have the latest gadgets. I must admit I love gadgets but I also need to be practical. I need to have things which I will use and that help enhance my life.
Their are several problems with the new Iphone are as follows:
1. I still think the data plans are too much.
2. No SD expansion slot.
3. No real keyboard a touch keyboard which you can bring up does not cut it.
4. The battery is too much to replace and you can not do it yourself.
5. I still dislike I tunes.
That all said some people do like it since Apple sold out of the I Phones last Friday. Personally I will take my Samsung Jack any day of the week.

Well the I Phone debate is over for me. I am not getting one. The data plans which Rogers is offering is way too expensive. So why would I go their.
I decided to get a Samsung Jack. It is a Windows CE device and is working great. It syncs with all my current online apps as well as plays Mp3 files and has a 4 gig mini sd slot. I am all set:)

Their are big concerns that Censorship is happening with China once again. It seems that the Chinese government has now censored Facebook and blocked it from all their users. It’s amazing that these countries do this at all. We are so lucky to live in a country which has free speech.
